This advertisement gave freemasons in Philadelphia notice of a meeting on June 24, the saint’s day of John the Baptist and a traditional Masonic celebration. The meeting was scheduled at City Tavern, which was run by Daniel Smith, a fellow mason. A “frugal Entertainment” was planned, to be followed by “Dinner on the Table precisely at Two o’Clock.”
