Paper was a hot commodity in the advertisement sections of newspapers in 1776—from the rags needed to make the paper to the paper mills where the process happened and the bookstores where people purchased blank paper and printed products. This advertisement in the Staatsbote gave notice of a paper mill for sale in Spotswood, New Jersey. Friedrich Römer built the mill and lived there for some time. The current owner, Johannes Klein, lived remotely, in Albany, New York. He asked any interested individuals to contact William Will, a pewterer in Philadelphia, or Henrich Will in New York.

The advertisement described an ideal location for a paper mill. It was situated on 130 acres of land where, even during the hottest days of the summer, there was always running water. Additionally, there was a landing site nearby where the paper could be loaded onto ships bound for New York and distributed from there.

Der Eigner derselben, Johannes Klein, wohut in Albanien, und die Mühle liegt zu Spotswood, in Neu-Jersey, 10 Meilen von der Amboyer Fähre, und Friederich Römer hat sie gebaut, und einige Zeit da gewohnt; es fehlt ihr im heissesten Sommer nicht an Wasser. Es sind ungefähr 130 Acker Land daben mit viel Obstbäumen darauf; das meiste von dem Land sing Wiesen; anderthalb Meilen davon ist ein Landungs-Platz, von wannen man bequem zu Wasser Waaren nach Neuyork senden und von da bekommen kan. Wer Lust hat diese Mühle zu kaufen, der beliebe sich zu melden bey Wilhelm Will, Zinngieser zu Philadelphia, oder bey Henrich Will in Neuyork.
