July 26, 1776
Henry Miller’s almanac for 1777 was already finished and available for sale in July 1776, according to this advertisement in Miller’s newspaper. He had been printing German-language almanacs every year since 1762. Miller’s almanac relied on the astronomical calculations of David Rittenhouse and, like other almanacs, typically included geographical and historical information as well as remedies for common medical issues. Although he kept this initial advertisement minimal, Miller said his readers might hear more information about the almanac in the future.
